If you’re struggling to make the Friday deadline, you might find it useful to know that almost all software on a computer has what are known as shortcuts, making common tasks – such as copy and paste - much quicker.
The shortcuts listed below work with most application software, and all can be used on both PC and Mac.
There are a number of shortcuts for selecting parts of text, from a single word to a whole section:
Select a word - double-click anywhere in the word you want to select.
Select more than one whole word - hold down the CTRL key (Command on a Mac) and double-click in each of you words you want to select.
Select a whole sentence - click once anywhere in the sentence you wish to select, then hold down the CTRL key (Command on a Mac) and click a second time.
Select a whole paragraph - triple-click anywhere in the paragraph to be selected
Select a range of text - click immediately before the first character you with to select, then hold down the SHIFT key and click immediately after the last character you wish to select.
Select everything - CTRL + A (Command + A on a Mac)
Rather than moving the mouse to a menu to copy, cut or paste, use the simple shortcuts:
Copy - CTRL + C (Command + C on a Mac)
Cut - CTRL + X (Command + X on a Mac)
Paste - CTRL + V (Command + V on a Mac)
Although not supported on 100% of applications, the vast majority allow you to save simply by pressing CTRL + C (Command + C on a Mac).
